Welcome to Shredder’s MMA, a fun mixed martial arts academy in Amarillo owned and led by the Mercado brothers! This is a family-oriented environment with beachlike vibes. We are chill and easygoing but also work hard while training. Whether looking for fitness, self-defense, or competition, you will be encouraged to work toward achieving your personal goals! In all our martial arts classes (MMA, Jiu Jitsu, Wrestling, Judo, and Muay Thai), students gain confidence, courage, discipline, and many other life-changing skills. Our School
Are you looking for a fun, uplifting MMA culture in Amarillo? We have just that at Shredder’s MMA! Students can learn MMA, Jiu Jitsu, Wrestling, Judo, and Muay Thai plus have fun while progressing every day. We pride ourselves on being a place you can laugh and work hard. Beginners and competitors can come in and thrive. We have even formed the biggest and most active fight team in the area. Our founders and owners, Aric and Dylan Mercado love to compete and watch their students dominate on the mat. They’ve created a place where anyone can start training and take their journey wherever they wish!
History
Brothers, Aric and Dylan Mercado, had been training, teaching kids martial arts and competitors for multiple years and wanted a place of their own. In 2023, they decided to bring a new style to martial arts in Amarillo by opening Shredder’s MMA. The academy quickly grew to offer many different programs, martial arts disciplines, and types of students. This has now included affiliating with Tsunami BJJ and having students win on bigger promotions.
Before opening the academy, Aric and Dylan had already made martial arts a big part of their lives. They each received their black belts under John Ouano and have cornered each other in Jiu Jitsu bouts. Alongside Aric’s 7-7 professional record and Dylan’s 4-2-1 amateur record, the Mercado brothers draw on 10+ years of experience and years as academy leaders. They continually evolve and improve their approach to better serve beginners, hobbyists, beginners, and competitors one day at a time.

Shredder’s MMA
Programs
There are plenty of programs at Shredder’s MMA for everyone to find the right fit. We have age-specific programs, MMA classes, Jiu Jitsu and Striking training, and women-only lessons. At the same time, we also teach Muay Thai and Judo! Check them out and find the right one for you and your family!
Lil Shredders
(ages 4–11)
Our Little Shredders program is a great introduction to martial arts training and all it has to offer. We help students gain confidence, courage, and learn to express themselves. Whether they are learning Wrestling, Judo, Striking or Gi Jiu Jitsu, our kids martial arts classes can help them grow in and out of the academy!
Big Shredders
(ages 11–16)
Our Big Shredders continues the many lessons taught in Lil Shredders. Our variety of kids martial arts training allows students to grow as martial artists and people. The Wrestling, Judo, Striking, and Gi Jiu Jitsu lessons they receive will be huge toward their development before their adult years.
Striking
Our Striking program is a mix of Muay Thai, MMA, cardio Kickboxing, and the K1 Style Kickboxing. These many styles and techniques allow students to develop an all-around skillset for self-defense and competition while improving their fitness.
MMA
Our MMA program can be for those looking for self-defense or those wanting to compete. It is a full-access program with Striking and Jiu Jitsu training also included! Those are both key to helping round out your game.
Gi & No-Gi Jiu Jitsu
We have Gi and No-Gi Jiu Jitsu training for beginners, hobbyists, and competitors. Our beginners and fundamental students focus on drills and different basic rolls as our competitors dive deeper into the art. We also provide students with lots of entry-level competition opportunities!
Women-Only
This program was created for women to have a safe, comfortable environment to train in. You can improve your fitness, learn self-defense, or build your competitive skills through Striking and Jiu Jitsu training!
